Led by Professor Kerry Arabena, proud descendant of the Meriam people from the Torres Strait, First 1000 Days Australia: Early life strategies for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families training provides participants with the capacity to address intergenerational trauma and promote strategies for family resilience, mental health, cultural safety, and social and emotional wellbeing.

The training has been developed by Prof Arabena for those working with parents and families to understand the importance of the period from pre-conception to a child’s second birthday. First 1000 Days Australia uses an ecological framework of social, cultural, place-based, and family-based interventions to provide comprehensive strategies that support families to be the best they can be. The movement recognises the importance of strengths-based approaches and identifying and responding to family aspirations.
