What psychologists need to know about nutrition

When:  Wed, Nov 4, 2026 from 19:00 to 20:00 (AEST)

Many psychologists finish their training without confidence in sharing nutrition information, yet clients bring it into the counselling room all the time: the new diet, the supplement a friend swears by, the thing they saw on TikTok.

This introductory, "no silly questions" webinar with Tara Diversi takes us back a little further to discuss how our body systems work and why some things truly improve nutrition, and some things are likely social media hype. This session will equip psychologists with foundational nutritional knowledge relevant to psychology and mental health. Key learnings include a broad overview of the key anatomy and physiology that is important to nutrition, an understanding of how macronutrients and micronutrients influence brain function and mood regulation and reference the key guidelines for general mental wellbeing.

Throughout the session, you will receive plenty of practical tips to spot misinformation and disinformation - and understand the role of a psychologist in supporting nutrition wellbeing and when to refer to a trusted dietetic colleague.

Tara will also be doing a follow-up webinar in December - Nutrition and mental health - which will build on this by equipping psychologists with nutritional literacy relevant to clinical practice.
