Understanding alternative career options for Psychologists

When:  Apr 4, 2024 from 13:00 to 14:00 (AEDT)

In this presentation Dr Janie Busby Grant and Associate Professor Amanda George will present the findings of their new analysis of potential job roles for Psychology graduates (both recent and not so recent) in Australia (see report).

Their collaboration used Machine Learning across more than 5 million job advertisements to identify industry demand for psychology graduate skills. They found that psychologists hold skills that are in high demand across a wide range of destinations, with around 25% of Australian and New Zealand jobs advertised in the last four years potentially suitable for them. Their report identifies potential jobs, including specific job titles, across nearly every industry.

Amanda and Janie will discuss the findings and what they could mean for psychologists already in the workforce, talk about specific job roles that might suit, and how individuals can use the findings to apply for non-traditional psychology graduate jobs.

There will then be a facilitated discussion hosted by AAPi’s Creative Careers in Psychology group, and Q&A with members.
