Climate change is increasingly shaping the emotional, relational and organisational contexts in which psychologists work. Clients are bringing eco-anxiety, climate grief, uncertainty about the future, and distress linked to extreme weather, loss of place, and moral complexity into therapy rooms. At the same time, psychologists working in organisational, community and leadership roles are encountering climate-related strain in teams, communities and systems, often without a clear framework for how to respond.
This webinar will explore what climate-aware practice means for psychologists across diverse roles. Drawing on Psychology for a Safe Climate's Climate-Aware Capability Framework, the session will introduce key concepts including the links between climate change and mental health, the diversity of climate emotions, and the importance of reflective, relational and context-aware responses. The session is not about turning psychologists into climate advocates. It is about strengthening our capacity to respond to what is already showing up in the room, the team, the community, and the systems we work within.
Takeaways:
- Understand why climate-aware practice is becoming increasingly relevant across multiple areas of psychology
- Be able to identify several key forms of climate-related distress and how they may present in practice
- Gain an introductory understanding of PSC's Climate-Aware Capability Framework
- Reflect on how climate change may already be shaping their own professional context
- Leave with a clearer sense of why presence, relational awareness and practitioner sustainability matter in responding to climate distress
