This webinar presents a new perspective on therapist self-care, positioning creativity as an essential practice that helps us access deep, untapped internal resources. Drawing on her background as both a psychologist and a poet, Emily Wilkinson brings together psychological principles with experiential creative practices in an original educational framework.
All content is Emily’s own work, developed through years of immersion in both clinical practice and creative life and is designed for psychologists looking for a nurturing, enjoyable and energising way to meet the new competencies, with an emphasis on self-care. The techniques Emily will discuss are designed to increase reflective capacity and support culturally responsive practice, without adding to professional overwhelm.
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
- Describe how creativity restores connection to self and serves as restorative self-care
- Explain the relationship between creative practice, reflective capacity, and culturally responsive practice
- Experience the shift from saturation to restoration through an experiential creative practice
- Identify one approach for integrating creative practice into daily life without adding to our task burden
- Recognise common barriers to creative practice (such as self-criticism or perfectionism) and the importance of responding compassionately
