The echo chamber: A guide to vicarious trauma

When:  Oct 23, 2025 from 19:00 to 20:00 (AEDT)

The Echo Chamber: A Guide to Vicarious Trauma addresses a critical yet often overlooked aspect of healthcare practice - the cumulative impact of bearing witness to others' pain.

This presentation challenges the notion that vicarious trauma indicates professional weakness, reframing it as an expected outcome of empathetic healthcare practice, and moves beyond the simplistic self-care advice that is so often offered as a solution. Participants will learn to recognise early indicators of vicarious trauma, understand its impact on both personal and professional functioning, and develop practical, research-supported strategies for building sustainable resilience.

Through combining theoretical understanding with practical application, this training provides healthcare professionals with the tools needed to maintain effectiveness while protecting their own psychological wellbeing.
