Embodying neuro-affirming practice

When:  Feb 18, 2026 from 19:00 to 20:00 (AEDT)

Many clinicians want to be neuro-affirming but are unsure what language to use or how to authentically embed the approach in their day-to-day work. This session explores what it means to live neuro-affirming practice - moving beyond good intentions and terminology to genuine embodiment of the philosophy through language, mindset, and therapeutic interaction.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  1. Recognise and reframe deficit-based language in clinical documentation, professional conversations, and personal reflections to align with neuro-affirming principles
  2. Describe key features of neurodivergence and understand how brain-based differences shape experience, communication, and engagement in therapy
  3. Apply the philosophy of the neurodiversity paradigm by identifying practical ways to live neuro-affirming practice - through language, relational stance, and therapeutic choices.

April Daltonalomes and Jessica Farrell are both excited to explore neuro-inclusivity with you and to start meaningful conversations about how we can all contribute to building a more affirming future in our work and communities, to explore what neuro-affirming practice looks like in real-world settings, and to spark conversations that move us closer to inclusive, compassionate systems for all.
