Functional Neurological Disorder (FND)

When:  Sep 3, 2026 from 19:00 to 20:00 (AEST)

Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) involves altered voluntary motor and sensory function that is internally inconsistent, incongruent with any known neurological disease and is associated with an impaired sense of agency.

Functional neurological disorders (FND) are one of the most common diagnoses in neurologic practice and the second most common reason for a neurologic consultation after a headache. FND is estimated to be experienced by around 50 people per 100,000 population. In a recent Australian study of an outpatient neurology clinic, 15% of new presentations received a primary diagnosis of FND, whilst other studies find that up to 30% have at least some functional element as part of their symptoms.

This presentation is being held over 2 one-hour sessions on the 3rd and 17th September 2026.

In session 1 on the 3rd September, Dr Judith Griffiths will discuss some of the definitions and symptom presentations of FND. We will consider diagnosis and look at the models and aetiology of FND.

In session 2 on the 17th September, Judith will take a deeper dive into some case presentations and look at how different therapeutic modalities can be used with clients. This presentation will also be exploring the lived experience of people (and their carers) with a FND diagnosis, and stigma that is reported by those with lived experience.

You only need to register once to attend both sessions and for non members the registration fee includes both sessions and access to the videos.  Recordings of each session will be available in the CPD webinar library the next day should you be unable to attend both live sessions.
